Confident & Conscious: Navigating Puberty, Identity & Choices in Light of Islam

 

This two-day program is designed for 8th–9th grade girls to explore physical, emotional, and social changes through the lens of Islamic values. We’ll discuss topics such as puberty, body image, emotional regulation, modesty, gender roles, sexual boundaries, and the growing influence of modern ideologies.

We will equip students to understand Islam’s view on identity and sexuality—including topics related to LGBTQ+, with clarity and compassion. Girls will learn how to navigate confusing messages in society and online, and how to build confidence rooted in their faith.

👧🏽 For: Girls in 8th & 9th Grade (Parents will not be present during the sessions to provide a comfortable space for the children)

⏰ Dates & Duration: January 10 & 17
       – 3 hours each session (includes a short break and Q&A session)

Meet the Instructors:

Aalimah Khadija Basith is an accomplished educator and leader with over 16 years of experience in both private Islamic and public educational settings. She holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from DePaul University and completed a rigorous two-year Principal Preparation Program at Concordia University, earning her Illinois school leadership certification. Her academic journey is further enriched by her completion of a five-year Alimah program through Darululoom Online.

Khadija has served in various impactful roles throughout her career, including three years as an Instructional Coach and one year as Director of Enrichment Programs at Carriers of Light, where she designed and led initiatives that nurtured confident, spiritually grounded learners. She currently serves as a Teacher Coach at Masjid Uthman and advises several Islamic and public schools in the area, supporting educators in creating classrooms rooted in both academic excellence and Islamic values.

Aalimah Iram Shaikh was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She began her Islamic studies at Jamiatus Salihat, and later completed her studies at Darul Uloom Chicago from which she obtained her Aalimah degree under illustrious scholars that have studied throughout the Indian Subcontinent. She graduated with a focus in Arabic grammar, Hadith and Qur’an commentary, and Hanafi Fiqh. Upon completion of her Aalimah degree she served the community through establishing and teaching introductory level Tajweed and Fiqh classes for young adult females and organizing weekly sisters’ Halaqas in the Chicagoland area. She went on to complete her B.A. in Urban Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She also taught online women’s Islamic courses focusing in Arabic grammar and Fiqh along with teaching youth tafseer, tajweed, and seerah in local masajid in Chicago. She was a full time teacher at a local Islamic school teaching middle school and high school Islamic Studies, Islamic History, and Qur’an. After teaching for 6 years, she went on to pursue her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from UIC all the while having two kids. Currently, she spends her time volunteering locally leading learning circles for young girls and moms.
